Self-report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5-10% of adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident
Children are most vulnerable to CSA between the ages of 7 and 13
The Impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse
Survivors of CSA are more likely to:
- Develop symptoms of drug abuse
- Experience PTSD as adults
- Experience a major depressive episode as adults
- Be victims of rape and domestic violence in the future
The negative long-term consequences can be mitigated by getting treatment and support early.
